Glass at Manual High School
Participants flowed through the door at Manual Wednesday, February 20th for a glass workshop at Manual. Cyndi Young was a gracious host and made us feel right at home in her new home at Manual. After having Missi Carini’s Workshop at at last year’s KyAEA state conference at Eastern Kentucky University made me want to ask Missi to come to Louisville to share her love for glass fusing with the art teachers of the Derby Region.
With an hour and a half drive under her belt, and little food in her belly, she presented a fun and exciting performance to never before seen faces. Seventeen Participants, including Cyndi and I, listened attentively as they learned more about a material they now hope to do in their classroom in the future.
The teachers were amazed at how simple and easy the project could be for all levels. One teacher made the perfect comment when she said something to the effect of, “this project is great, it doesn’t matter who draws better than whom.” Most would agree that it’s the perfect project to allow students to feel successful at all ages.
I want to thank Missi Carini, Cyndi Young, and all of the participants that showed up from 6 different districts, including the private sector. I look forward to seeing you all again for our next workshop.
